The Longest Half Hour of My Life

This morning, in my town, there was a walk/run for cancer. For some reason, the people who organized didn't notify everybody else, or even put up a sign to let drivers know that traffic would be held up. See, when my parents drive to my guitar lesson, we can take a number of routes. Unfortunately, since we were not told about the walk/run, we took the route that overlapped with the route of the runners (and walkers).
There was this intersection, where the runners had to turn left. Now picture this, you're in the car, and runners come from the road that is to your right, and turn left, onto the road next you. Do you see why you wouldn't be able to drive straight across the intersection? You could (and probably would) hit a runner.
So, only the people that were going the same direction as the runners(the opposite way we were going), were sometimes allowed to go. My parents and I sat in the car for almost forty minutes, waiting for all the runners and walkers go by. I was a half hour late to guitar, which only lasts a half hour. Luckily, my teacher had not left yet, and was able to fit in a lesson, before he left.
